Preparing God's Word for your heart
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
Isaiah 40:8
Another expedition of Englishmen was trying to conquer Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world.
Bitter cold, raging winds, a rarefied atmosphere, blinding blizzards, engulfing avalanches of snow and rock—all these dangers stood between brave men and the top of that towering mountain.
The last expedition came the nearest to success. A little more than two thousand feet below the peak, the main body of the party pitched their highest camp. From that base two men, Mallory and Irvine, equipped with oxygen tanks, attempted a final dash to the top.
They hoped to climb to the peak and return in about sixteen hours. They never came back. Of them the official record of the expedition said in simple words, “When last seen, they were heading toward the summit.”
Press on! Surmount the rocky steeps, Climb boldly o’er the torrent’s arch; He fails alone who feeble creeps, He wins who dares the hero’s march.
Be thou a hero! Let thy might Tramp on eternal snows its way And through the ebon walls of night Hew down a passage unto day.

The Kingdom of God will be brought in by Christians who, when last seen, were heading toward the summit; Christians who, with Paul, can accept the challenge of the “many adversaries” that guard the open door, even though they go down to defeat in their generation.
