The Lord , the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.
Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.
Paul withstood not only the tests that came while he was active in his service to Christ but also the tests of solitude during captivity. We may be able to withstand the strain of the most intense labor, even if coupled with severe suffering, and yet completely break down if set aside from all Christian activity and work.
This would be especially true if we were forced to endure solitary confinement in a prison cell.
I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them.
A new heart . . . will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you.—Good and upright is the Lord : therefore will he teach sinners in the way. The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
